🚀 EVERYTHING IS FLYING 📖
Last week I launched my book, Everything Is Flying, at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School
Why launch a space book at a business school in Glasgow?
👉 Roots in engineering and Scottish science
I studied Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Glasgow. David Mackay Scotland’s first astronaut and chief test pilot for Virgin Galactic, came through the same course (before me!). This is also the university of Lord Kelvin, James Clerk Maxwell, and Adam Smith—names that shaped thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and modern economics.
👉 Why the Adam Smith Business School matters for space.
The Adam Smith Business School sits at the heart of what makes the commercial space economy work:
Capital and investment
Economics and markets
Go-to-market strategy
Innovation and research support
In other words, the things that turn technology into actual businesses.
🚀 BEYOND ENGINEERS
For too long, space has been treated as a technical niche, focused almost entirely on physicists and engineers. But building the commercial space economy goes far beyond that. We need:
Financiers to structure capital
Policymakers to shape regulation
Operators to scale systems
Marketers to create demand
Technicians and skilled trades to physically build it
The future of space will not be decided by those who can only build rockets.
đź“– EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE
A sustainable space economy depends on inspiring a much wider group: innovators, educators, business leaders, and skilled workers.
To build durable space businesses—and space‑dependent businesses—we need everyone to have a solid grounding in how space technology works in principle and how it connects to the real economy.
That means education for all. Making space accessible to everyone, not just engineers.
✍ WHY I WROTE EVERYTHING IS FLYING
I wrote Everything Is Flying to make space approachable for non-specialists, to give policymakers, marketers, executives, and students a clear baseline understanding of the space sector, and to inspire the next generation of leaders.
My hope is to see the book in business schools, engineering and physics programs, high schools, trade schools, and in the hands of executives and regulators outside the traditional space sector.

🙏 GRATITUDE
Thank you to everyone who came to the event—it was wonderful to see such a diverse group of space executives, colleagues, academics, friends, and family in the room.
Special thanks to Andy Campbell FSHD, David Mackay, Yvette Hopkins, Derek Harris, Alan Thompson, and Alfie Marturano for their insightful comments and questions.
And a huge thank you to Anthony Devine, PhD and Kenny Logue and their teams at Adam Smith Business School and the University of Glasgow—not just for hosting, but for their partnership with Space Network and our partners in driving the education of future business leaders coming out of Scotland.
