Space is a Team Sport

There’s a common misconception that the space industry is really only for rocket scientists or that it’s just about astronauts and billionaires messing around.

But the space industry is just like any other business—built and driven by diverse teams working together. I learned this early on during my time at Rolls-Royce, my first real industry experience was on the factory floor, stripping down and rebuilding engines alongside engineers, craftsmen, welders, and electricians. That experience taught me a vital lesson: building the future of space requires many different kinds of people with unique skills and perspectives.

Space is one of humanity's most exciting problem-solving labs, and solving its challenges calls for a wide array of talents. Of course, physicists and engineers are essential, but we also need:

🔧 Skilled Tradespeople: The rockets, habitats, and launch pads of tomorrow are made by talented welders, electricians, and craftsmen—just as much as by mathematicians. You don’t need a four-year degree to reach the launchpad!

⚖️ Lawyers & Policymakers: As space becomes busier, we need experts who understand international laws and policies to make sure space remains fair, safe, and sustainable.

📈 Business Leaders: To turn innovative ideas into viable companies, attract investments, and connect space advancements to real-world solutions here on Earth.

📚 Educators: To inspire the next generation, opening their eyes to all the possibilities space offers.

Remember, space has never advanced because only one type of person had all the answers. The most successful space programs celebrate diversity—thinking differently and coming from various backgrounds and cultures.

Whether you're dreaming of becoming an engineer, a trade professional, a student exploring careers, interested in economics, or just space-curious—this frontier is for everyone! You don’t need a rocket or a Ph.D. to be part of this story—just curiosity.

That’s exactly why I wrote my new book, *Everything Is Flying*. I wanted to make space accessible for everyone—to show how it touches our daily lives and how you can join in.

My goal was to share the incredible world of space simply and clearly—no complicated equations, just a little lightheartedness (and zero equations!).
